How to Get Rid of Furniture, Mattresses and Appliances in Auburn, Alabama
Auburn residents may have municipal curbside options for certain bulky items, but professional removal is often more convenient when items are upstairs, still inside the home, need to leave quickly, or include multiple pieces. Toss It handles the lifting, loading, and hauling from the item's current location — not the curb.
When Auburn curbside pickup may work
Municipal collection can work well when: the item is already outside, you can wait for the next scheduled pickup, the item is on the approved list, and no refrigerant handling is required. Check the current Auburn Environmental Services schedule for your address before dragging anything to the curb.
When to hire full-service removal instead
- The item is still inside the home or up a flight of stairs
- You have a lease-end, closing, or move-in deadline
- You have multiple pieces at once (couch + mattress + dresser)
- The item is a refrigerator, freezer, or refrigerant appliance
- You physically can't lift or move it safely
- You'd rather not stage it curbside for a week
Couch and sectional removal
Sectionals are the #1 furniture pickup we do in Auburn. Two crew, out the door, into the trailer, gone in under 30 minutes on most jobs. If it has to come down stairs or through a tight door, that's still routine work — just tell us in advance so we bring the right straps.
Mattress and box-spring removal
Mattresses can't legally be landfilled in some situations and require specific disposal handling. That's included in our quote. King, queen, full, twin, or futon — same simple process.
Refrigerator and freezer preparation
Before we arrive:
- Empty the unit and let it dry out overnight if possible
- Prop the door open once emptied so it doesn't refreeze/mildew
- Disconnect the water line for ice-makers
- Leave 3 feet of clearance on the pull-out path
Refrigerant recovery is legally required on any unit containing coolant and is handled through certified processors as part of your Toss It quote.
Washer, dryer, and range removal
- Washers: turn off the water valves and disconnect hoses
- Dryers: unplug (or turn off the gas valve for gas models) and disconnect the vent
- Ranges: turn off the gas or breaker and pull the appliance clear of the wall
- We can do any of the above if you'd rather we handle it
Upstairs and apartment pickups
Second-floor apartments — especially in Auburn's off-campus market — are common. Narrow stairs, sharp turns, and elevator time slots all get factored into the quote before we arrive.
Donation and recycling considerations
Furniture and appliances in usable condition are routed to local donation partners with your permission. If we can donate an item instead of hauling it, we will — that's better for you, better for the community, and better for landfill volume.
Items Toss It cannot accept
